BORIS v.8 (based on the mpv media player)
An EXPERIMENTAL version of BORIS (based on the mpv media player instead of the VLC media player) is available.
Please use you it and report any bug and send your suggestions.
Some improvements:
- MPV is more reactive than VLC and allow to record events more precisely.
- The frame-by-frame mode was greatly improved (no more necessary to extract frames as images on disk or memory)
- A real-time events plot function was added (See Tools > Plot events in real time)
- The maximum play rate is 100x (instead of 30x)
- Video equalizer with brightness, contrast, saturation, gamma and hue parameter
- Option for adding media and data files without absolute path but relatively to the project file (the project will be easier to share)
- Access to the BORIS ethogram repository
- Undo function during events coding (with 25 levels, CTRL + Z / Observations menu > Undo)
- Observation from pictures directories (in a future release)
Some regressions :-)
- The Focus video area function is no more available (work in progress)
A release of BORIS v.8 (8.6.5) is available for Linux and Microsoft-Windows at https://github.com/olivierfriard/BORIS/releases/tag/v8.6.5
The new version is totally compatible with previous ones. The BORIS project file format was not changed.
See the User guide for details and the change log.
Please test it and report the issues on https://github.com/olivierfriard/BORIS/issues

MacOS
As I have no access to a physical Mac computer there is no version for MacOS. The Mac OS users should use Parallels Desktop to run the Windows version or switch to another OS.
